Homepage concepts we've designed for family law firms
Two concepts for Cardiff family law practices with very different clients. Names, people, photos, contact details and other identifying details have been changed.

What a family law website has to get right
A quick exit on sensitive pages
On pages about domestic abuse, an "Exit this page" button at the top that jumps to a neutral page, following the GOV.UK "Exit this page" pattern (it also works by pressing Shift three times). It only hides the page, so we link to guidance on clearing browser history too, and we only add it where it's needed.
Plain answers on divorce
No-fault divorce has applied since 6 April 2022. There's a 20-week wait between the application being issued and applying for the conditional order, then at least 43 days before the final order. Anyone who wants a legally binding financial arrangement should apply for it before the final order. Clients want this timeline on one page.
MIAMs and mediation
Before applying to court about children or finances, people usually need to attend a mediation information meeting (MIAM), with exemptions such as domestic abuse. Families can often get a voucher worth up to £500 towards mediation. A short, clear page on this answers a question people search for constantly.
Honest legal aid information
Family legal aid mostly covers domestic abuse, child protection and mediation, usually with evidence and a means test (parents in care proceedings get legal aid without a means test). A page that explains who qualifies, and what you need to bring, saves time on both sides.
Fees people can understand
Divorce isn't on the SRA's mandatory price list, but clear fixed fees or "from" prices are what clients look for first. We set out what's included, the £628 court fee, and when help with fees may apply.
The SRA essentials
Your SRA number and digital badge in a prominent place, and a complaints procedure explaining how and when to complain to the Legal Ombudsman and the SRA (more on SRA website rules). Advice in Welsh, if you offer it, said up front.

What people search for, and what your site needs for each
Most family law searches are questions. The firms that answer them clearly, on their own pages, are the ones Google and AI assistants send people to.
| Situation | Typical searches | What we build |
|---|---|---|
| Thinking about divorce | "divorce solicitor Cardiff", "do I need a solicitor for a divorce", "how long does a divorce take" | A divorce page with the step-by-step timeline, your fees and a gentle first-call offer. |
| Money and property | "financial settlement after divorce", "do I have to split my pension" | A finances page explaining consent orders and why to sort finances before the final order. |
| Children | "child arrangements order solicitor", "what is a MIAM" | Children pages covering MIAMs, mediation vouchers and what happens at court. |
| Safety | "legal aid domestic abuse", "non-molestation order solicitor" | A protection page with the quick-exit button, urgent contact routes and legal aid information. |
| Cost | "how much does a divorce cost UK", "fixed fee divorce solicitor" | A fees page that shows prices, what's included and the court fee. |
| Before marriage | "prenup solicitor", "cohabitation agreement" | Pages for agreements, which bring in planned, less urgent work. |
Discretion matters here too: no pop-ups, no chat bots that follow people around, and enquiry forms that ask only for a name, a safe number and a good time to call.

Common questions from family law firms
How does a quick-exit button work?
It sits at the top of sensitive pages and, when pressed, replaces the page with a neutral website such as a weather page. It can't clear browser history, so we pair it with a short guide on staying safe online, and we only add it to the pages that need it.
Can you write the divorce and MIAM pages for us?
We draft them in plain English from official guidance and your own advice, and you approve every word before it goes live.
Do we have to publish our divorce fees?
The SRA's mandatory price list doesn't include divorce, but you must still publish your complaints procedure, SRA number and digital badge. Most clients look for prices first, so we recommend fixed fees or "from" prices.
Can the site be bilingual?
Yes. We can build English and Welsh versions, or flag Welsh-language advice clearly on an English site.
How much does it cost?
The homepage concept is free. If you like it, the full site is £495, then £69 a month for hosting, security and changes.
