Websites for financial advisers and planners

People choose a financial adviser for trust, not tables. Your website has to explain what you do in plain English, show how you charge, and carry the FCA information that proves you're genuine, without drowning visitors in disclaimers. We design adviser websites around that, and we'll redesign your homepage first, free.

Our work

Homepage concepts we've designed for advisers

Two concepts for Cardiff advice firms. Names, people, photos, contact details and other identifying details have been changed, and reference numbers replaced with zeros.

Homepage concept for a financial advice firm with warm colours and buttons for retirement, investments, mortgages and protection
Clear, simple adviceWarm and reassuring for first-time clients, with the areas of advice as simple buttons under the call to action.
Homepage concept for an independent financial adviser showing FCA authorisation beside the main photo
Independent, fee-based planningLeads with independence and the fee basis, with direct FCA authorisation shown in a card beside the photo.
FCA rules

What a financial adviser's website has to show

Your website is a financial promotion and must be fair, clear and not misleading. These are the points we build in, ready for your compliance sign-off.

COBS 5.2

Status and reference number

Your name, address, contact details, VAT number if registered, the statutory status statement and a statement that you're on the Financial Services Register with your firm reference number. We put them in every footer, with the regulator's name written in full; appointed representatives use their network's wording.

COBS 6.2B

"Independent" or "restricted"

You can only describe your advice as independent if you assess a sufficiently broad range of products across the market. Restricted firms mustn't call themselves IFAs, and firms offering both mustn't present the whole business as independent. We match the copy to your permissions.

COBS 4

Risks shown fairly

Whenever a page mentions potential benefits, it must give a fair and prominent indication of the relevant risks. Any past performance needs a warning that it isn't a reliable indicator of future results.

Consumer Duty

Plain English, fewer disclaimers

The FCA wants communications people can understand: plain language, jargon explained, key information easy to find, and no unnecessary disclaimers. Good web design is part of meeting the consumer understanding outcome.

DISP 1.2

Complaints and the Ombudsman

Information about the Financial Ombudsman Service, including its website address, on your website, alongside your own complaints process.

Fees

Charges people can follow

Initial, ongoing and hourly fees set out simply, with worked examples. If you advise on defined benefit pension transfers, the fee page must reflect the FCA's ban on contingent charging.

Being found

What clients search for, and what your site needs for each

NeedTypical searchesWhat we build
Finding an adviser"independent financial adviser Cardiff", "financial planner near me", "chartered financial planner Wales"A homepage and team pages that show who you advise, your qualifications and how to start.
Retirement"pension advice Cardiff", "retirement planning adviser"Retirement pages that explain the process and the first meeting.
Passing wealth on"inheritance tax planning adviser"Estate-planning pages, linked to your professional connections (solicitors, accountants).

Questions

Common questions from financial advisers

Do we have to say "the value of investments can go down as well as up"?

That exact sentence isn't prescribed by the FCA, but whenever you mention potential benefits you must give a fair and prominent indication of the relevant risks. Most firms use similar wording; your compliance function decides.

Can we call ourselves independent financial advisers?

Only if your advice meets the FCA's standard for independent advice. If your advice is restricted, we'll describe it accurately and still make it sound like the good service it is.

Who approves the website wording?

You or your network. We build in the status statement, register details and risk wording, and nothing goes live until you've approved it.

Can the site be in Welsh too?

Yes. We can build bilingual sites or flag Welsh-language advice clearly.

How much does it cost?

The homepage concept is free. The full site is £495, then £69 a month for hosting, security and changes.
